I loved The Moons’ debut album, Life on Earth, from which their latest single here is taken from. As such I’ve got Everyday Heroes already but playing it for the first time in a while, immediately the simple but powerful guitar intro gets me moving. The lyrics come flooding back (the title is self explanatory really, it’s about those people often overlooked as we go about our life but without whom, etc etc), the tune instantly familiar again and I’ve got a smile on my face.
Rear Window is the B-side, and as it is with other tracks from The Moons it’s a modern sound with inspiration from the 60s, a slower number but not a ballad. I want to say Small Faces, or The Beatles, then someone else, before I realise that once again they’ve achieved the enviable result of a fresh tune with the perfect ingredients to which fans are instantly attracted.
Available as limited edition vinyl and digital download, Everyday Heroes precedes The Moons’ tour with Ocean Colour Scene from the end of September. Buy this single if you’ve not got the album, but I’m sure if you do the long-player will follow.
