Advertising deadlines

Just a quick note for ALL advertisers (clubs and businesses) that the advertising deadline for the next issue of Scootering (March 2008, 261) is a week earlier than normal on Friday 1 February. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause but we know you won’t mind because you’re usually such a prompt lot anyway

Forthcoming changes to our Scooter Trader online advert service

INTRODUCTION TO THE CHANGES

After 9 years of running on one simple set of scripts, Scooter Trader is finally evolving into a system better suited for today's internet usage.
The current system offers no protection against spammers, showing your email address to everyone.. it offers no photo capability, no content control to stop people flooding the system with duplicate adverts, and no way to easily see what adverts you have running or allow you to edit your adverts.

We have been on the look-out for a decent replacement for the current system for some time, and we have finally chosen a commercial product that will allow Scooter Trader to work better then ever.

Whilst many things will change, some will not:
SCOOTER TRADER TEXT ADVERTS WILL REMAIN FREE!

USER ACCOUNTS:

Almost every single system we tested needed user accounts. It's simply the best and most secure way for YOU to manage your adverts and protect your details.
The new system will require you create an account, but we promise this will be simple, secure and ALWAYS FREE. We won't ask for information we don't need and we certainly won't EVER give this information out.*
I have tried several options to avoid needing accounts, but we simply can't find a SECURE way for users to post adverts without one. I'm sure you'll agree having your email address appear on a site attracts spam almost instantly, and anything to avoid this will be better. (As well as being able to track/edit your adverts etc etc!)

Below is a simple FAQ. If you have a question on the new system, please email Jason on the below address.

FAQ - NEW SERVICES, AND TIMELINE:

What will the new system offer?
• FREE text adverts in the same categories as before!
• FREE account to manage your adverts, edit them & remove
• FREE messaging, so buyers will contact you via the system, thus helping to protect your email address from spam.
• SEARCH: Find the item / model you want easier.
• LINK-UP to Scootering.com, Scooteristscene.com and Twistngo.com - our magazine websites will carry a front page listing of the most recent adverts on ST - making your item appear to thousands more scooterists instantly.

• OPTIONAL PAID-FOR SERVICE: Small cost for highlighted, boxed listing, adding photos, web address and commercial advert placing options.

As you can see, the basic service will improve greatly, the addition of an optional photo system will help everyone, and we sincerely hope everyone will enjoy the new site once live.

WHEN WILL IT CHANGE?
Our programmers are working on the new software now. Within the next few weeks we will announce the address of the new system, and invite users to try out the site.
Once testing is complete - this ST site will stop accepting new adverts, but allow you to view existing ones. We will then point new adverts to the new site and ensure both sites can be easily viewed. Once all adverts on the old site have expired (or been transferred to the new site) we will close it down.

ANY QUESTIONS?
If you have any questions concerning the usability or technical features of this or the new website as well as suggestions for improvements, or any concerns you feel with the new system - please contact:

Euro Travelling and Back Issues

With the summer season here and more and more British scooterists considering rallies abroad, can I remind you of an article we published last year in August’s issue of Scootering (number 242) called Euro Travelling. Here you will find some tips and suggestions on what to take with you, the ferry situation, hotels and more.
Back issues are available from our website at www.scootering.com or by calling us on 01507 529529 and while we’re on the subject of back issues, did you know that you can search and purchase a specific copy of Scootering via the internet? Whether it be an article on a classic Puch scooter, the first UK report on the Piaggio MP3, the complete story of the Li Series 4, a specific custom scooter or indeed any article that has appeared in Scootering magazine, either follow the link from this website or go direct to www.classicissues.com and follow the easy-to-use search guide there.

Logbooks for sale?

This subject has again reared its head, as people have contacted the magazine trying to place adverts either flogging or requesting such items. It is the law that you cannot buy or sell logbooks, whether British, Italian, or from anywhere in the world. The logbook relates to a particular vehicle’s identity, courtesy of its chassis or VIN. Think of it as a passport for cars and scooters etc.

It’s illegal to buy and sell them and the same goes for logbooks, and it encourages the ringing of scooters which is what thieves do with stolen bikes in an attempt to give them a new identity. Remember, we are legally allowed to publish names and photographs of convicted thieves and the law courts may just decide that someone selling a logbook is just that, so don’t do it, right?
